Overview:

The Fundraising Specialist is responsible for developing and executing strategies to raise funds that support the Compassionate Homes for Veterans mission. This volunteer role involves building relationships with donors, managing fundraising campaigns, and identifying new opportunities for financial support. You will play a key role in ensuring the sustainability and growth of our programs by cultivating a culture of giving.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement fundraising plans to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
  • Plan and coordinate fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives.
  • Write grant proposals and reports to secure funding from foundations and other sources.
  • Manage donor database, ensuring accurate records of contributions and interactions.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create engaging fundraising materials, including social media content, newsletters, and appeal letters.
  • Track and analyze fundraising performance to optimize strategies and improve outcomes.
  • Ensure all fundraising activities comply with legal standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in fundraising, nonprofit development, sales, or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in fundraising, sales, or donor relations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, proactively manage tasks, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with donor management software and CRM tools is a plus.
  • Passion for the mission of CHV and a commitment to making a difference.
Time Commitment:
  • Flexible, task-based schedule averaging approximately 5–10 hours per week (depending on current projects and your availability).
  • Commitment duration is flexible; a minimum of 3–6 months is preferred.
Location:
  • Remote (preference for volunteers familiar with or located in the Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, D.C. area).
